Jack Anderson, CEO, Hornall Anderson
Jack Anderson is the CEO of Hornall Anderson, a
multi-disciplinary, media-agnostic design consultancy comprised of
an eclectic group of 160 individuals, and located in Seattle and
London. Jack founded Hornall Anderson in 1982 with the belief that
if you invest in your people and your clients, great work will flow
from there. Over the past 30 years, lasting relationships with a
diverse group of clients such as Starbucks, Microsoft, Holland
America, Weyerhaeuser, Hewlett-Packard, The Limited, McKesson,
Kroger, OMD, Evolution Fresh, Chicago's Willis Tower, Empire State
Building, Madison Square Garden, Redhook, PepsiCo, and UK clients
Unilever, ASDA, Heinz, Pernod Ricard, L'Oreal, and Virgin Atlantic

Not only has Jack spoken at a number of industry conferences, he
has also been interviewed by and contributed to thought-leadership

honorary Chair for Seattle's first-ever design festival, and this
year AIGA Seattle presented him their 2012 Fellow Award. Jack has

partnership with Starbucks, Jack is mentioned in Howard Schultz's
latest book "Onward" for his strategic guidance and leadership

Dr Eveline Bartowsky, Senior Research Microbiologist,
The Australian Wine Research Institute
Eveline is a Senior Research Microbiologist at AWRI, and directs
the malolactic fermentation and wine bacteria research program, and
is Manager of the AWRI Wine Microorganism Culture Collection.
Following a PhD in microbiology on Vibrio cholerae from The
University of Adelaide, Eveline undertook postdoctoral studies in
Umeå University, Sweden and Washington University Medical School in
St. Louis, USA on cephalosporin resistance in Citrobacter
freundii. Before joining the AWRI in 1994, she worked as a
Research Fellow on the biological control of stored product pests
at The University of Adelaide.
Current research projects include understanding aroma and
flavour aspects of MLF; MLF inoculation regimes to improve MLF
efficiency; genomics of Oenococcus oeni; and minimising wine
spoilage by lactic acid and acetic acid bacteria. Eveline is
world recognized for her research into wine bacteria and has
published over 80 papers including journal articles, book chapters
and technical papers.
Ted Baseler, President and CEO, St. Michelle Wine
Estates
Ted Baseler joined the company in 1984 after working on the
Chateau Ste. Michelle account as a Vice President for Cole and
Weber in Seattle. Over the years, Ted has risen through the ranks
and became President and CEO in 2001.
Since then, Ted has turned around company profit growth by
increasing quality, focusing on Washington vineyards, acquiring
highly acclaimed small wineries, and expanding distribution
worldwide. The company has had record earnings and profits in seven
of the eight years since Ted took the helm. His leadership roles in
the industry have included Chairman of the Washington Wine
Commission, Chairman of the Wine Market Council and Director of the
Washington Wine Institute. Wine Enthusiast magazine named Ted the
"Man of the Year" in 2009. He also led efforts to create an enology
and viticulture program at Washington State University, where he
has served on the Board of Regents. Ted's previous employment
includes working as an account executive for J. Walter Thompson in
Chicago, where his emphasis was on packaged goods marketing. Ted
received a bachelor's degree from Washington State University and a
master's degree from Northwestern University.
Dr, David P. Beck, Crawford Beck Vineyard
A scientist in a former life, working in the areas of human
genetics and cell culture, David Beck and his wife Jeanne, also a
scientist, decided to put their passion for Pinot noir fully into
play in the next phase of their lives. Now operating the
Crawford Beck Vineyard in Amity, Oregon, they produce Pinot noir,
Chardonnay, and Pinot gris which is vinified by some of Oregon's
finest wineries. The Becks view the vineyard as one giant
laboratory, dedicated to finding ways to improve the quality and
sustainability of their operation. Even though he is firmly
rooted on the farm, Dr. Beck has not escaped his academic
background, and he now serves on the Oregon Wine Board, for which
he Chairs the Research Committee, the Board of the Oregon
Winegrowers Association, and on the Policy Board for the Oregon
Wine Research Institute at OSU, among several other panels and
commissions.
Lesley Berglund, Chairman, WISE Academy
Lesley is an accomplished wine industry entrepreneur and CEO
with a focus on change management. Over the past 21 years in
the wine industry she has started up the equivalent of seven new
businesses, acquired and integrated four companies and led during
periods of dramatic change. As co-founder and former CEO of
the Ambrosia Wine Catalogue/the Winetasting Network (which she sold
to 1-800 Flowers in 2004) she has deep experience in consumer
direct marketing of fine wines. Lesley has served on the
board of ten wine-related companies and trade associations, and
serves as co-chair of both the Wine Industry Technology Symposium
and the Green Wine Summit. In 2008, she co-founded the WISE
Academy, which provides education, training and certification for
winery consumer direct professionals. Today she spends most
of her time coaching winery leaders through growth related
challenges and opportunities. Lesley has a BA from
Wesleyan University and a MBA from Harvard Business School.
She is also a third generation Napa Valley native from a grape
growing family.
Eddie Black, Amazon.com
Eddie is the North America Sales Manager for Amazon Wine. He has
33 years of experience in the beverage industry. He has
successfully run sales and marketing organizations for Tazo Tea
Company, Young's/Columbia Distributing Company, Pyramid Breweries,
Jones Soda Company, Friendly Distributing Company and Paul Thomas
Winery.
Steven C. Boone, Boone & Associates
Steve was named Safeway Stores' first full-time wine buyer in
1974 in its Seattle Division. In 1979, after a transfer to
the corporate office, where he was responsible for all of Safeway's
alcoholic beverage business, he was charged with the development of
the Liquor Barn concept. Over a seven year period, he managed
its profitable expansion to 105 stores with annual sales of $330
million. In 1987, he joined Cost Plus World Market as
President and Chief Executive Officer, where he was responsible for
a major repositioning of the company, including the addition of
wine to its product mix. In 1993, he co-founded BEVMO,
serving as Chairman, President and CEO. He was President and CEO of
SakéOne, Forest Grove, Oregon, from February 2004 through May,
2009.
Steve was given the honor of being named one of the original
"wine retail superstars" in 1982 by Market Watch Magazine.
The Wine Spectator listed him as one of the 100 most influential
people in the world in the wine industry.He has served on many
for-profit and non-profit boards. He has lectured in both the
undergraduate and graduate business programs in many universities
including The University of California at Davis, The University of
California at Berkeley, and The University of Southern California.
He also served as the executive in residence at the Executive Wine
Program at Monash University in Australia. He has been a featured
speaker at over 100 wine industry symposia and other events and
today provides strategic and tactical guidance to wineries and
retailers and serves on the Board of Hanzell Vineyards.
Ryan Collins, Vineyard Operations Manager, A to Z
Wineworks, REX HILL
Originally from Margaret River, Western Australia, Ryan has been
surrounded by the wine industry his whole life. He has been working
in the industry since he left high school in 2000. Ryan furthered
his education with a Bachelor in Agricultural Science, Majoring in
Viticulture, graduating in 2005 from the University of Adelaide. In
2007 he moved to New Zealand to follow interests in cool climate
viticulture. In 2010 Ryan started full time as the Viticulturist
for A to Z Wineworks and REX HILL Vineyards where he is now in
charge of all fruit supply.
Michael Crabtree, Conservation Technician, Yamhill Soil
and Water Conservation District
Crabtree works with land managers to help them incorporate sound
conservation practices with their land management activates.
Michael also develops farm plans for land owners who are looking
for a comprehensive document that identifies the need for specific
conservation practices to be installed on their properties.
They can use the plan to enroll in state and government programs
that help landowners implement conservation practices.
Michael has worked for the district for over 7 years and has a wide
variety of experience working with agricultural producers.
The Yamhill Soil and Water Conservation District has started a
program that focuses on reducing spray drift on vineyard
properties. The district will be providing financial
assistance to vineyards that are willing to use recycling tunnel
sprayers to make their spray applications. Michael will be
speaking about the details of the program and will have application
materials available.
Professor Grant R. Cramer, Department of Biochemistry
and Molecular Biology, University of Nevada
Dr. Cramer is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
at the University of Nevada, Reno. He received his PhD in Plant
Physiology at the University of California, Davis in 1985. He is
Chair of the Steering Committee of the International Grape Genome
Program and the Leader of the Grape Research Coordination Network
that is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. His research
focus is on abiotic stress effects on grapes particularly the
effects of water deficit. His research takes a Systems Biology
approach using cutting-edge Omics technology. His research program
has received more than $9 million in grant funds for research on
grapes in the last 10 years. He is a regular speaker about grapes
at meetings around the world.
Lance Cadle-Davidson, USDA-ARS, Geneva, NY
Lance Cadle-Davidson was born and raised in Kansas, surrounded
by big vistas and big agriculture. After receiving his B.S.
degree in Biochemistry at Kansas State University, Lance travelled
overseas for the first time, to live in Chennai, India for one year
and study Integrated Intensive Farming Systems on a Fulbright
Fellowship. There, Lance realized the importance and
challenges of managing plant diseases. He obtained his PhD in
Plant Pathology from Cornell University in 2003, and has been
studying grape diseases in his current position ever since.
Lance leads a USDA-ARS research program in Geneva, NY focused on
pathogenesis of economically important fungal and oomycete
pathogens of grapevine, particularly powdery mildew. Lance
and Cornell grape breeder Bruce Reisch co-lead the $9 million SCRI
VitisGen project (www.vitisgen.org), which is "Mapping the way to
the next generation of grapes."
Dan Grunbeck, Senior Vice President, Youngs Market
Company
Dan is a 20 year industry veteran with incomparable wine
experience and expertise. Prior to joining Young's, he has
held a number of positions with prominent wineries and wine
suppliers throughout his career, and most recently, serving as the
Vice President / National Sales Manager Wines and Champagnes for
Pernod Ricard.
Allen Hollstein, Argyle Winery
After finishing a masters degree at the University of Kentucky
in Horticulture, Holstein followed up with some postgraduate study
at Oregon State University. Beginning in 1980 he began in the
fledgling wine industry as the vineyard manager for Knudsen Erath,
just preceding its explosive growth. In the late 1980's he began a
contract vineyard management business under the umbrella of Argyle
Winery, where he was also in charge of grape sourcing for the
Argyle Brand. Subsequently he developed from day one the Domaine
Drouhin Estate through 2007. As a result, he had many
opportunities to explore Burgundy to visit the famous Burgundian
vineyards, where the Drouhin family is based. In the 1990's he
began planting and developing the Stoller family vineyard and
winery, one of the leading brands today. Subsequently, he sourced
and developed two properties owned by Argyle in the Eola Hills,
Lonestar and Spirit Hill Vineyards. Along the way, he witnessed and
participated in the evolution of the art of grape growing in
Oregon. As part of the vineyard business he has nurtured a
sideline nursery business. He owns and operates his own small
vineyard surrounding his home in the Dundee Hills. In 2005, he
joined the board of LIVE and added his portfolio to the program.
Holstein is co- chair of North Willamette Valley Technical
Group.
Greg Jones, Southern Oregon University
Greg is a professor and research climatologist in the Department
of Environmental Studies at Southern Oregon University who
specializes in the study of climate structure and suitability for
viticulture. He conducts applied research for the grape and wine
industry in Oregon and has given hundreds of international,
national, and regional presentations on climate and wine-related
research. He is the author of numerous book chapters, reports and
articles on wine economics, grapevine phenology, site assessment
methods for viticulture, climatological assessments of viticultural
potential, and climate change. Greg was named to Decanter
Magazine's 2009 Power List representing the top 50 most influential
people in the world of wine and the Oregon Wine Press's 2009 Wine
Person of the Year.
Jean-Michael Jussiaume, Winemaker, Del Rio
Vineyards
With more than 15 years of global experience in winemaking,
Jean- Michel Jussiaume is well- traveled and has produced wines
from many grapes varietals and from various climates throughout the
world. He began his career in winemaking at an early age; with his
family's 60 hectare vineyard in Loire Valley then later, receiving
his degree of enology and viticulture, in France. After
graduation, Jean-Michel explored diverse appellations such as
France, Australia, South Africa, Hungary, New York, and Virginia.
In 2008 Jussiaume started his career at Del Rio Vineyards where he
currently crushes up to 1000 tons of fruit per year.
Mike Keiser, Owner, Bandon Dunes Golf
Resort
Michael L. Keiser is the owner of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort,
which was recently recognized by both GOLF Magazine and Golf Digest
as the No. 1 Golf Resort in North America. Located on Oregon's
South Coast, the Resort now includes five courses designed in the
tradition of Scotland's ancient links. The resort has
450 employees and 250 caddies.
Mr. Keiser is active on the boards of numerous civic and
charitable organizations in the fields of health care, education
and conservation. He is the former Board Chair of the
Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. In the education arena, he
Chairs the Board of Teach for America - Chicago and serves on the
board of Academy for Urban School Leadership. He also is a
member of the Board of Directors for the Evans Scholar
Program/Western Golf Association and the Field Museum of Natural
History.
Mr. Keiser is the Founder of the Wild Rivers Coast Alliance
(WRCA), an organization funded by net proceeds from Bandon Preserve
golf course, with the goal of supporting and growing
environmentally sustainable industries on the South Coast of
Oregon.
Mr. Keiser received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from
Amherst College.
Dr. Andrew Landers, Cornell University
Dr. Andrew Landers studied and taught agricultural engineering
in England before he joined the faculty at Cornell University in
1998. He is based at the New York State Agricultural Experiment
Station in Geneva where he directs the application technology
program and his teaching/extension/research appointment involves
the use of engineering solutions to provide safer spraying. In 2007
he was presented with the College of Agriculture & Life
Sciences at Cornell University award for outstanding
accomplishments in extension and outreach. In 2010 the New York
Wine and Grape foundation presented him with the Research award for
major contributions in research and education.
Andrew Landers is author of Effective Vineyard Spraying,

Dr. Johan Leveau, UC Davis
Johan Leveau was educated in the Netherlands, earned his Ph.D.
in Switzerland, and pursued post-doctoral studies at the University
of California-Davis, where he now serves on the faculty as
Associate Professor. Dr. Leveau studies the microbiomes that
colonize above- and below-ground plant parts. Understanding
how these microbes interact with each other and with their host
plant, and how such interactivities affect plant health and
productivity will improve our ability to predict, prevent, or
reduce plant disease in natural and/or agricultural systems.
His most recent work has focused on the structure and assembly of
the bacterial communities associated with grape leaves and berries
and the natural abundance, functional characterization, and
ecological significance this microbiome and its ability to
manipulate plant hormone homeostasis, on the molecular dialog that
takes place during the confrontation between bacteria and fungi,
and on the use of new technologies to visualize and quantify
microbial activities at micrometer resolution.
Rob McMillan, Silicon Valley Bank
Spanning a career of more than 30 years Rob moved though roles
of increasing responsibility, including a term on Silicon
Valley Bank's Managing Committee. In 1992 he founded the Bank's
Wine Division, developing it from the idea and start-up phase to
the point where it's the leading bank for the fine wine business on
the West Coast. Today Rob supports the division by sharing views on
the macro factors impacting the fine wine business, consulting with
clients on strategy, writing, and speaking. Rob has published
reports on emerging trends in the wine industry and is author of
the well regarded SVB Annual State of the Wine Industry Report.
Rob's perspectives regarding the direction, opportunities and
threats in the wine business continue to be cited in regional,
National and wine trade press. He has a bachelor's degree in
finance/economics and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University but his
real dream was to be a rock drummer.
Christian Miller, Full Glass Research
Christian is the proprietor of Full Glass Research, a market and
industry research firm specializing in wine and food. Clients of
Full Glass Research include wineries, farmers, marketing companies,
regional organizations and investors. Christian also helped found
Wine Opinions, the leading online research panel of U.S. high
frequency wine consumers and trade members, where he is responsible
for research design and analysis. He co-manages the OIV Wine
Marketing Short Course at U.C. Davis and is often quoted in trade
publications. Christian's industry experience includes restaurant
and retail sales, work as a consultant and negoçiant, and consumer
research. He holds a BA in economics from Franklin & Marshall
and an MBA from Cornell University.
Dr. David A. Mills, UC Davis
David Mills is the Peter J. Shields Endowed Chair in Dairy Food
Science in the Departments of Viticulture & Enology and Food
Science & Technology at the University of California at
Davis. He studies the molecular biology of lactic acid
bacteria in food/beverage fermentations or active as probiotics in
intestinal health. Dr. Mills has served as a Waksman
Lecturer, and as Chair of the Food Microbiology Division, for the
American Society for Microbiology. He currently serves as an
associate editor for the journal Microbiology. In 2010 Dr.
Mills was awarded the Cargill Flavor Systems Specialties Award from
the American Dairy Science Association.
Chris Noud, NOW Design
Chris Noud provides award-winning identity, packaging and
business collateral solutions for small to mid-size companies, with
a special focus on the Oregon wine industry. As a veteran graphic
designer, Chris Noud has worked with businesses up and down the
Willamette Valley for the last 20 years. His primary area of
expertise is branding and identity development. He has worked with
more than 40 wineries in Oregon and Washington, and has helped
launch successful new brands, redesigned legacy brands, and
developed new products for existing brands.
James Osborne, Oregon State University
James received his PhD from WSU in 2005 and most recently spent
time in his native New Zealand working at the University of
Auckland as well as at Delegat's/Oyster Bay Winery. In his current
role James continues his research into wine microbiology including
malolactic fermentation and the role of various microorganisms in
wine production. James is also the Enology Extension Specialist for
the Oregon wine industry and teaches wine production classes in the
Department of Food Science and Technology.
Luke Pedotti, Director of Vineyard Operations,
Winemakers Investment Properties LLC
A native of Northern California, Luke received his Bachelor of
Science degree in Agricultural Systems Management and a minor in Ag
Business from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 1998. Upon graduating
he moved to Sonoma County and was hired on as assistant vineyard
manager with Dutton Ranch where he was involved in all phases of
vineyard development and related farming in the Russian River
Valley. In 2001, he and his wife Nikki moved to McMinnville
upon accepting the position of Vineyard Manager with Evergreen Ag
where he was employed for approximately three years. In 2003,
Luke was hired by local vineyard management company Results
Partners where he helped promote Oregon vineyards through design,
development and management and held the position of General Manager
until 2009. In 2010, Luke accepted his current role as
Director of Vineyard Operations with Winemakers Investment
Properties LLC where he oversees 650 acres located in both Marion
and Yamhill counties. Luke, his wife Nikki and their new
daughter Alexis live in Carlton.
Steve Price, Price Research Services
Steve's background is in viticulture and he owns a consulting
company, Price Research Services, Inc., offering technical support
for the wine industry in Oregon, California and Australia. He also
owns a vineyard in the Willamette Valley growing Pinot noir. Steve
is an Oregon resident who works with wine and grape phenolic
chemistry. He has developed the phenolic assays offered by ETS,
works with client support for the phenolic program, and works on a
range of ETS research projects. He has a PhD from Oregon State
University in Plant Physiology and was Viticulturist at OSU for
twelve years. He has been consulting with ETS since 1995.
Chris Sarles, Executive Vice President, Youngs Market
Company
Chris has been a champion of Oregon wine throughout his more
than 26 year career in the beverage industry. His career began by
starting a small wine and beer distribution company in 1986 which
he grew and developed over 10 years and eventually sold to a larger
competitor. He brings a well-balanced perspective by having covered
all facets of the business. Today Chris is responsible for managing
all aspects of the wine business in Oregon for Young's Market
Company. In addition, he has acted as the President of the Oregon
Beer and Wine Wholesaler Association working actively with the
Legislature on the critical issues facing our industry.
Dr. Paul Schreiner, Research Plant Physiologist,
Horticultural Crops Research Laboratory (USDA-ARS)
Paul conducts research on root and nutrient physiology of
grapevines, including the role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi
(AMF). Current research goals are to: 1) understand the impact of
management practices on root and AMF development, diversity of AMF
in roots, and vine performance; 2) identify the functional roles of
indigenous AMF taxa; 3) understand how other soil organisms
influence roots and AMF; and 4) characterize the nutrient
requirements of grapevines based on physiological performance and
fruit quality attributes.
Paul received a BS in Biochemistry in 1985 from Penn State
University, and a PhD in Plant Physiology from Penn State
University in 1992. Paul has worked on grapevine physiology since
1999.
Patty Skinkis, Oregon State University
Patty is the Viticulture Extension Specialist and Assistant
Professor of Viticulture at Oregon State University where she
conducts applied research and provides outreach and education
programs for the Oregon winegrape industry. She also teaches
viticulture courses in the Viticulture & Enology degree
program. Patty has a BS in Horticulture from University of
Wisconsin-River Falls and a PhD in Horticulture (viticulture) from
Purdue University. Her research program is focused on understanding
vine vigor and fruit quality through whole vine physiology,
fine-tuning canopy management methods, and sustainable viticulture
production.
Alexandre Schmitt, Wine Flavors SARL
Alexandre Schmitt was born in Bordeaux in 1967. He is a graduate
of the Bordeaux University of Sciences and ISIPCA (International
Institute of Perfumery, Cosmetics and Food Flavorings) in
Versailles (France). He created perfumes in Paris and London, then
taught perfumery at the Open University and the aromatization of
pharmaceuticals at the Bordeaux University School of Pharmacy.
Since 1998, he has given courses at the Bordeaux Faculty of Enology
(ISVV - Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences) and has taught on and
off for several years at the Catholic University of Oporto. He
travels to the world's greatest vineyard regions to educate wine
professionals in aromas.
Steven Smith, Teamaker
Steve Smith wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth. But he
uses one every day to taste, test and perfect some of the most
interesting teas in the world. It's a passion that goes back to
babyhood. His mother, Babe, always said he was a born teamaker.
Maybe it was the sweet tea with milk he drank at his grandmother's
house. Or the mystical beverages he encountered as a young man in
Southeast Asia. Whatever the true genesis, by 1972, Steve was
manager of the first natural foods store in Portland, Oregon, and
he and two partners founded the Stash Tea Company, which gradually
grew to become one of America's favorite consumer brands. From
Stash Tea Company Steven went on to develop Tazo Tea and most
recently his acclaimed signature brand, Steven Smith Teamaker.
Chad Vargas, Vineyard Manager, Adhelsheim
Vineyard
Chad Vargas became Adelsheim Vineyard's Vineyard Manager in the
fall of 2006 after working as a viticulturist for two years at
Kendall-Jackson. He holds BS and MS degrees in Crop Science and
Plant Pathology and has a wealth of experience in vine nutrition
and pest and disease management. Chad is responsible for quality
control and sustainability programs, financial planning and
training related to their expanding vineyard operations.
Rollin Soles, Winemaker, Argyle/ROCO
Rollin Soles, the longtime winemaker at Argyle Winery and
founder of ROCO, has been producing fine wines and garnering high
praise and fond attention from wine critics and enthusiasts for
more than 20 years. Throughout the years Rollin has continued to
produce wines that are ranked among the TOP 100 Wines of the World
by the Wine Spectator (ELEVEN times). He is the only Oregon
winemaker to hold this distinction.
Lettie Teague, Author, Columnist, Wall Street
Journal
Lettie Teague is a staff writer and wine columnist at The Wall
Street Journal. She was formerly the wine columnist of Food &
Wine ("Wine Matters") for ten years and its wine editor for twelve
years. She is the author of Educating Peter (Scribner's) and the
co-author of Fear of Wine (Bantam). She has won three James Beard
Awards, including the MFK Fisher Distinguished Writing Award, and
her work can be found in the 2009 Best Food Writing Guide (DaCapo
Press). She loves most wines of the world except Pinotage. She has
never had a good Pinotage.
Juan Pablo Valot, Sylvan Ridge, Chemeketa Community
College
JP born in Mendoza, Argentina's wine country. He completed a
five years degree in agriculturalsciences, with a focus in enology
at the National University of Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina. In 2001 he
came to Oregon looking for new challenges and attracted by Oregon's
growing wine industry. He is the Associate Winemaker at Silvan

Michael Crabtree, Distrito de Conservación de Agua y
Suelo del Condado de Yamhill
Michael Crabtree es el técnico de conservación del Distrito de
Conservación de Agua y Suelo del Condado de Yamhill. Trabaja con
los administradores de tierras para ayudarles a incorporar
prácticas de conservación sensatas en sus actividades de
administración de la tierra. Michael también desarrolla planes
agrícolas para los terratenientes que buscan un documento
exhaustivo que identifique la necesidad de instalar prácticas de
conservación específicas en sus propiedades. Ellos pueden usar el
plan para inscribirse en programas estatales y gubernamentales que
ayuden a los terratenientes a implementar prácticas de
conservación. Michael ha trabajado para el distrito por más de
siete años y tiene una amplia variedad de experiencia de trabajo
con los productores agrícolas.
El Distrito de Conservación de Agua y Suelo del Condado de
Yamhill ha iniciado un programa enfocado en reducir la desviación
de los aerosoles aplicados en las propiedades vitivinícolas. El
distrito aportará asistencia financiera a los viñedos que estén
dispuestos a usar túneles rociadores recicladores para realizar sus
aplicaciones en aerosol. Michael hablará sobre los detalles del

Allen Hollstein, Argyle Winery
Después de terminar la maestría en Horticultura en la
Universidad de Kentucky, Holstein prosiguió sus estudios de
postgrado en la Oregon State University. A principios de 1980
empezó en la entonces naciente industria del vino como
administrador de un viñedo de Knudsen Erath, justo antes de iniciar
su explosivo crecimiento. A fines de los ochentas, empezó un
negocio de administración de viñedos por contrato bajo el amparo de
Argyle Winery, donde también estaba a cargo de las fuentes de
abastecimiento de uvas para la marca de Argyle. Por consiguiente,
desarrolló Domaine Drouhin Estate desde el primer día hasta 2007.
Como resultado, tuvo muchas oportunidades de explorar la Borgoña y
de visitar los famosos viñedos borgoñeses, donde la familia Drouhin
tiene su centro de operaciones. En los noventas empezó a plantar y
a desarrollar el viñedo y vinatería de la familia Stoller, una de
las principales marcas en la actualidad. Por consiguiente, él creó
y desarrolló dos propiedades de Argyle en los viñedos de Eola
Hills, Lonestar y Spirit Hill. A lo largo del camino, ha
atestiguado y participado en la evolución del arte de la producción
de la uva en Oregon. Como parte del negocio vitivinícola, él ha
creado un vivero como negocio complementario. Es propietario de un
pequeño viñedo que él mismo administra, el cual rodea su casa en
Dundee Hills. En 2005 se unió a la junta directiva de LIVE y añadió
su portafolio al programa. Holstein es actualmente co-presidente
del North Willamette Valley Technical Group.
Price Steve Price, Price Research Services
Steve tiene antecedentes como viticultor y además es propietario
de una compañía de consultoría, Price Research Services, Inc.,
donde ofrece soporte técnico para la industria vitivinícola de
Oregon, California y Australia. Él también es propietario de un
viñedo en Willamette Valley donde produce Pinot noir. Steve es un
residente de Oregon que trabaja con la química fenólica del vino y
la uva. Él ha desarrollado los ensayos sobre fenólicos que ofrece
ETS, colabora con atención a clientes sobre el programa de
fenólicos y trabaja con una gran variedad de proyectos de
investigación de ETS. Él tiene un doctorado de la Oregon State
University en fisiología vegetal y fue viticultor en OSU durante
doce años. Ha trabajado como consultor en ETS desde 1995.
Dr. Paul Schreiner, fisiólogo vegetal investigador,
Horticultural Crops Research Laboratory (USDA-ARS)
Paul conduce una investigación sobre la fisiología de las raíces
y nutrientes en las vides, incluyendo la función de los hongos
micorrícicos arbusculares (HMA). Las metas de investigación
actuales son las siguientes: 1) comprender el impacto de las
prácticas administrativas en el desarrollo de las raíces y los HMA,
la diversidad de los HMA en las raíces y el rendimiento del vino;
2) identificar los papeles funcionales de los taxones de los HMA
nativos; 3) comprender cómo los organismos del suelo influyen en
las raíces y los HMA; y 4) determinar las características de los
requisitos nutricionales de las vides con base en el desempeño
fisiológico y los atributos de calidad del fruto.
Paul recibió su título en Bioquímica de la Penn State University
en 1985, y un doctorado en Fisiología vegetal de la Universidad
Estatal de Pensilvania en 1992. Paul ha trabajado en la fisiología
de los vinos de uva desde 1999.
Patty Skinkis, Oregon State University
Patty es especialista en la Extensión de Viticultura y profesora
asistente de Viticultura en la Oregon State University, donde
conduce investigación aplicada y brinda programas educativos y
comunitarios para la industria vitivinícola de Oregon. También
imparte cursos de viticultura en el programa de grado sobre
Viticultura y Enología. Patty se graduó en Horticultura en la
University of Wisconsin-River Falls y tiene un doctorado en
Horticultura (viticultura) de la Purdue University. Su programa de
